The History of Sanguen Health Centre

Sanguen was founded in response to a clear community need. Through his work at Grand River Hospital, infectious disease physician Dr. Chris Steingart recognized that many people living with Hepatitis C in Waterloo Region and Guelph-Wellington could benefit from accessible medical care and wrap-around support. Together with his wife, Michelle, he established Sanguen—an organization that has since become a vital resource for people in at-risk communities.

Today, Sanguen continues to provide Hepatitis C testing, treatment, education, outreach, and ongoing support across both regions. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, social support workers, outreach staff, and peers with lived and living experience. We are proud to partner with community agencies and organizations to better support individuals living with, or at risk of, Hepatitis C, as well as those experiencing homelessness, substance use, and mental health challenges.
